The Men of DCCC do the Annual Fenwick Freeze
January 1, 2023 was a mild day around 50 degrees and a bit windy for the quick dip in the Atlantic Ocean near Fenwick Island Delaware. Three brave souls, one of which was in his underwear due to a last minute decision braved the chilly 43 degree waters. Larry O'Steen (President and CEO), Sal Puca (Director of operations) and Bob Ferguson (Director of Fleet Operations) all survived and plan to do it again next year - weather dependent - "we aren't crazy" someone remarked after that bold statement! The entire executive committee witnessed the show and braved the windy conditions and helped organize the warming phase of the expedition - Eillen O'Steen (VP?), Barb Puca (Treasurer) and Mia Hanson (Director of Marketing) made sure we at a hearty breakfast and bloody Mary's at the Crab factory to get us warmed up. I think all agreed to make this a yearly tradition - the Crab Cake Factory part ;-)
Side note on 2022 ending with a bang - literally as the cold winter temperatures around Christmas (near zero) froze the crab shack, busted water pipes and flooded the surrounding area for days... everything was orange due to heavy iron and we had one casualty - "Ronnie the Rat" perished in the flood of hot water, sorry Ronnie I was wondering why I could not catch you in a mouse trap! All is restored and we made a key purchase which is now in the crab shack - a new freezer for the bate, no one is more happier than our Director of Marketing Miaand our VP? Eillen O'Steen - they no longer have to endure smelly fish in their freezers!

The End of the DCCC 2022 Crabbing Season
What a year!
- The DCCC team made an upgrade to our fleet operations by purchasing a motorized boat.
- After 3 years of using a kayak to go out and collect our crab pots, we decided it was time. - The DCCC team collected over one thousand crabs to enjoy with family and friends.
- By freezing over 60 pounds of crab meat we were able to continue eating our specialty crab dishes throughout the winter. I.e. crab soup, crab cakes, crab pizza, crab quiche, crab imperial, just to name a few.
- Although the crab season ended in October, we continue to have team meetings and team building activities.
- Our brave CEO along with, VP of Operations/Culinary Supervision and VP of Fleet Operations, participated in the Fenwick Plunge on Fenwick Island, January 1, 2023. Followed by a team meeting at Crabcake Factory for libations and a hearty meal. As we end the 2022 season, here are the verified and official stats:
Caught - 999 crabs
Enjoyed - 166
Picked - 751 (will pick additional 32 today)
Froze - 50.7 lbs (probably freeze another 2 - 3 lbs today)
We’ve spent just under $400
Nice work if we say so ourselves. (Which we do. :) )
